Mr Ehimen Abuya, one of the youths in the peaceful protest today in Ewu, Edo State over the Fulani Herdsmen’s raping and killing of two women in the community Monday, has been shot in the leg and rushed to Irrua Specialists Teaching Hospital, Irrua.

Mr Abuya was allegedly shot in the thigh by suspected northern military officer during the peaceful protest in Ewu this morning.

According to Hon Peter Oboh from Idunwele-Ewu and Pastor Ken Isesele of Uzogholo-Ewu, the protest was peaceful and not violent, only that they blocked the highway, which is their village junction for a while to draw general attention to the evil that the Fulani Herdsmen had perpetrated in their community.

Mr Ehimen Abuya is a member of Ewu Renaissance Initiative (ERI), a community development organisation founded by Ewu youths at home and in the diaspora to defend the interests of Ewu.

He was shot in the leg and is in critical condition at the hospital.

According to one of the doctors treating the patient who spoke on condition of anonymity, the doctor said that Mr Abuya will likely lose the limb as it is noticed that he has lost all sensation on the affected limb.

“We just pray we dont amputate him. Failure rate of popliteal vascular repair is high. We want to take him to the theatre for repair now” a doctor who craved anonymity said to Urhokpota Reporters.

Tension is growing in the Ewu community as the youths have vowed to avenge this violence against them unless the government took urgent steps to ensure justice is served.

Meanwhile, the area has been condoned off by security agents because more protests are expected and the owners of the cattle, many of them monarchs and influential people, including a former naval top chief, in Edo Central, are afraid that if unchecked the youths may protest and kill many of the cattle.
