10 journalists molested and arrested in Edo by DSS and Soldiers

Department of State Services (DSS) and soldiers of 4 Brigade in a team have rounded up 10 journalists of Watchdog media who arrived Edo State on Monday to cover the forthcoming governorship election billed to take place on 28th of September, 2016.

The heavily armed security operatives invaded Douban hotel located off Airport Road, Benin where these journalists lodged, and arrested them at 2am this morning.

Names of the arrested journalists include; Tony Abulu (Production Manager), Hasley (Reporter), Uche (Reporter), Handy Romeo Eze (Reporter), Kelvin Toryila (Vidoe Editor), Lanre Ogunyele (IT Personnel), Balogun Ehigie (IT Personnel), Keneth Danpome (Head of IT), Joe Epi (Driver), Mathew (Logistics Manager).

It was learnt that these journalists were battered and bruised by the security team. It was also disclosed that the members of the Watchdog media team were bathed with dirty water and treated like common criminals by these security officers.

The reason for the arrest is yet unknown, as the apprehended media officers are still languishing in the 4 Brigade army Barracks.‎
