We all agree with what Mrs Obaseki said, “Edo women are prostitutes abroad”, she should not apologise for that bitter truth – Mrs Aisosa Amadasun, Edo APC woman leader adds salt to the injury

The All Progressives Congress (APC), women leaders in Edo, have said that Mrs Betsy Obaseki, the wife of the party’s Governorship candidate, should not apologize for her offensive statement against Edo women abroad, describing them as “prostitutes in need of rehabilitation”.

At a news conference in Benin on Saturday, the women leaders described as sad, and false the allegations being peddled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), that Mrs Obaseki described Edo women as “prostitutes’’.

The APC women leaders said that the wife of the gubernatorial aspirant said ” the truth” and that the PDP tried to score political points with it.

They urged Edo women to discountenance the campaign of calumny mounted against the wife of the APC governorship candidate.

A former Executive Director, Edo State Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Evelyn Igbafe, who recently decamped to the PDP, had alleged that Mrs Obaseki described Edo women as prostitutes.

The remark pitched Mrs Obaseki against Edo women in the state and abroad, who have been in the streets protesting against her and demanding an apology.

Mrs Obaseki was alleged to have recently said that PDP’s 12 years of bad leadership forced Edo women into prostitution abroad and that they needed rehabilitation.

Against the backdrop of the alleged statement, Igbafe had at a news conference in Benin, on Wednesday, asked Mrs Obaseki to tender an unreserved apology within four days or face mass protest from Edo women.

The Edo APC Women Leader, Mrs Aisosa Amadasun, in trying to defend Mrs Obaseki, has opened a new can of worms, saying that she supports what Mrs Obaseki said as it was “the bitter truth”.

“What Mrs Obaseki said, we all agreed with, a lot of young women who travel abroad for greener pastures are engaged in prostitution. I personally wondered why she (Mrs Igbafe) brought in the issue of prostitution.
