The Confusion that is Buharis Government

by 0 Avong Ayuba

A lot has happened since APC ended PDP's 16 years of "destructive" governance as they usually put it.

It may be agreed that PDP in its 16 years of governance, may not have lived up to the expectations of Nigerians which made the yearning and call for change understandable.

The then mega opposition party consisting of powerful individuals most of who emanate from the then ruling party, PDP before power changed hands, would capitalize on the people's yearning for change, as a strong campaign tool to win over support ahead of the recent elections.

Well elections has since came and gone, and the yearning for change ushered in a new government it hopes would change the tide of misfortune and hardship plaguing the nation for many years thanks to bad governance.

Its now over a year since the government of change assume office. But the question constantly in the air is, what has really changed in the past one year, and what should be expected within the lifespan of the current government?

As Nigerians await the change they voted for to start manifesting, what we do see clearly is the manifestation of high level confusion and cluelessness exhibited by the Buhari led administration since taking over power at the center. In fact, the degree of confusion and cluelessness has grown so massive that the confidence the masses once had in the APC prior to last year's elections, is rapidly fading away. (Don't get infuriated by the above statement, Oyegun himself agreed that Buhari has lost his popularity.)

In case you may be wondering how confused Buhari's government is, below are some instances that may give you an idea.

* Upon assuming office, the government accused Nigerians of being too anxious for change saying it won't happen overnight, forgetting it was the same anxiety they took advantage of and rode their way to power.

* Upon assuming office, the APC government clearly told Nigerians that the APC manifesto is not Bible or Quran that can not be changed.

* Upon assuming office, the APC government started denying it's outrageous promises. Especially those it knew well enough not to be realistic.

* It venture into blame games and demonizing past administrations as though it is still campaigning for votes.

* It continues with the "we will" campaign instead of actually going into serious business of governance.

* It latter venture into the business of meddling with legislative affairs which up to this day, the legislature is yet to settle down and focus on its legislative business.

* It presented to Nigerians ministers known to have questionable integrity and trustworthiness after keeping Nigerians waiting for months.

* After all the bogus promises to bring back the missing Chibok girls within months once in power, the government of the day no longer sees Rescuing the Chibok girls as a priority, but a distraction.

* The nation’s economy is now in recession from its number one status as Africa's biggest economy.

* More job losses than created is what we are witnessing despite the government's promise to create millions of jobs annually.

* Religious agenda threatening the nation's unity is what we are clearly witnessing despite the government's statement that unity is non negotiable.

* Killings all over the place and increase rate of kidnappings is what we are witnessing despite government's loud campaign promises assuring of peace and security.

* The naira is now a thing of mockery despite the government's promise of equal naira to a dollar, and continuous rejection of the call for devaluation.

* And when it seem damn serious about fighting corruption, all corrupt Nigerians the government of the day can see, are not found in the APC.

* Separation of power is now a thing of the past.

* The Senate once had the power to screen the President’s appointees, but now, no longer have the power to summon appointees.

* Do I need to bring the budget saga into the picture? What of the contradictive statements of Oyegun and Adesina? Where Adesina said, only few Nigerians are complaining, while Oyegun acknowledged that Nigerians are complaining all over the place? What of the contradictions between the President, Buhari and his Vice-President Osinbajo? Where Buhari said the confab report should be sent to the archives, while Osinbajo  acknowledge the usefulness of "many" of the confab recommendations, promising to look into the report and possible implementation? These are only but a few to mention.

The confusion and cluelessness of the Buhari led administration has given birth to yet another funny pre 2019 campaign slogan of "Change the Change" by the PDP who claimed Nigerians were blindfolded by the APC unrealistic campaign promises, and so to reverse the case, "Change the Change" would be a nice slogan to go with come 2019.

Meanwhile all eyes are still on the APC led government as we hope for  a dramatic turn around that may wipe away all doubts that APC is indeed a blessing and not a curse at a time like this.
